Jonathan Woodgate has been out since the 1-0 Champions League qualifier defeat by Partizan Belgrade last month. Woodgate will have a late fitness test before the visit from Bolton. Goalkeeper Shay Given is winning his battle against the knee injury he picked up on International duty.

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce is facing a defensive crisis ahead of the match against Newcastle. Florent Laville and Nicky Hunt are both out with injuries. French forward Youri Djorkaeff has shrugged off a calf problem and is available.

Newcastle start this season has been very disappointing. Only two points in four matches is won. Especially the exit against Partizan Belgrade in the Champions League qualifier was bad. The exit from Champions League leaves Newcastle in a position in a bad position as they don’t have cash to strengthen the team this season. Just two matches was lost home at St.Jameses Park last season, only Manchester United was better.

Bolton has made an ok start this season. Five points in three home matches, but the away form has been terrible. Both matches are lost and eight goals are conceded. The losses could have been even worse, but Jaaskelainen has been great in goal. Bolton won only three away matches last season.

Despite the bad start this season, we are sure Newcastle will bounce back and fight for a place in the European cup next season. The Magpies did also start last season slow, but after a great second half of the season, they finished with only three teams in front of them. It looks like Bolton will have another season where they’ll have to fight to avoid relegation. The team seems to be better though, so the fight to avoid relegation might not last to the bitter end.
